form is a meditation on the potential embedded in material failure. Created using instant film gifted to me in 2019 — a film that had expired in 2008, the year of the financial crisis — the series reflects on obsolescence and unpredictability. No longer produced by Fuji, the film responded in unexpected and uncontrollable ways. While each piece began with a deliberate photograph, the chemical instability within the camera ultimately determined the final image.

By scanning and enlarging the resulting prints to various sizes, the textures and organic forms produced by the chemical breakdown are brought into focus. This work has been exhibited in various configurations, often as installations where the prints are displayed off the wall.

Curator Marta Sesé describes the project: “The results present us with an aesthetic of failure that is propositive, deviating from the material’s original intention and imbuing the work with a queer potential. This emerges throughout various stages of the process: from the use of expired, loaned materials to the embrace of non-compliant, aberrant outcomes.”
